Kazakhstan is one of the countries that has been rapidly developing its tourism industry in recent years. Its vast territory, beautiful nature, and rich historical heritage attract tourists from all over the world. While Kazakhstan used to be known mainly as a transit destination, today it is becoming a fully developed tourist country. Official data confirms this trend: in 2023, approximately 9.2 million foreign visitors came to Kazakhstan, compared to 6.1 million in 2022. This clearly shows the rapid growth of tourism.

Each region of the country is unique in its own way. For example, Almaty city and its surroundings, including the Ile-Alatau mountains, Shymbulak, and Medeu, receive tourists throughout the year. In 2023 alone, Almaty attracted more than 2 million tourists. In winter, visitors enjoy winter sports, while in summer they can hike in the mountains and enjoy nature. For those who appreciate unique landscapes, the Charyn Canyon, Kolsai Lakes, and Kaindy Lake are ideal destinations. In recent years, the number of tourists visiting these areas has increased by 15–20% annually.

Kazakhstan is interesting not only for its nature but also for its history. The Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum in Turkistan is an important spiritual center of the Turkic world. In 2023, more than 1.5 million tourists visited the Turkistan region. In addition, ancient cities along the Silk Road allow visitors to explore the country’s historical past.

To effectively use this potential, Kazakhstan is implementing several tourism development programs. One of them is the State Program for Tourism Development for 2019–2025. Within this program, more than 400 tourism infrastructure projects have been implemented in recent years, including road repairs and the opening of new hotels and recreational facilities. The number of accommodation facilities exceeded 4,000 in 2023.

In addition, the national company “Kazakh Tourism” plays a major role in promoting Kazakhstan internationally. According to its data, investment in the tourism sector exceeded 700 billion tenge in 2023. Various promotional campaigns and international exhibitions are increasing global interest in Kazakhstan.

Another important initiative is the “7 Tourism Clusters” project. According to this project, Kazakhstan is divided into several major tourist regions, such as the Almaty mountain cluster, Turkistan region, Altai region, and the Caspian area. These clusters allow the development of different types of tourism, giving visitors the opportunity to choose their preferred type of vacation.

To improve convenience for tourists, the “eQonaq” electronic system has been introduced, simplifying the registration process for foreign guests. In addition, the visa regime has been significantly simplified, and citizens of more than 70 countries can now enter Kazakhstan without a visa. This has also contributed to the increase in tourist arrivals.

Domestic tourism is also growing rapidly. In 2023, the number of domestic tourists traveling within Kazakhstan exceeded 9 million. Short weekend tours, student travel programs, and school excursions are actively organized, increasing citizens’ interest in exploring their own country.

In conclusion, Kazakhstan is a country with beautiful nature, deep history, and strong tourism potential. Thanks to clear statistical growth and government support programs, the tourism industry is developing steadily. The main goal now is to effectively use these opportunities and turn Kazakhstan into one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
